Sean McEntee is the Higher Ground Program Manager for Sun Valley Adaptive Sports.
Originally from Rhode Island, Sean graduated from Rhode Island College in 1996 with a degree in Business Management. Sean worked in the outdoor retail industry throughout college where he learned the value of working in a field about which you are passionate. In 1998, Sean moved to Ketchum, Idaho. He immediately fell in love with the rugged terrain, the world-class mountain biking trails and the energy of the community in the Wood River Valley. With his extensive knowledge of gear and strong ability to understand people’s needs, Sean quickly earned his reputation as a trusted, top-of-the-line bike mechanic and ski tuner.
Over the years, Sean has achieved expert knowledge of the trails in and around Blaine County. He has led visitors and locals alike, by bike and by ski, “off the beaten track” in the Pioneer, White Cloud, Boulder and Sawtooth mountain ranges. He has also logged countless hours teaching individuals to ski and mountain bike so they too have the skills to enjoy this area the way he does.
Sean is an adaptive ski instructor with Sun Valley Company and his passion for teaching, his desire to share what this area has to offer, and his lifelong spirit of “helping out”, drew Sean to SVAS. Before joining the SVAS staff, Sean was a committed volunteer for two years working in all facets of SVAS programming. His volunteer time quickly became a highlight of his week, so much in fact, that in 2009, Sean made it a personal goal to become a full-time staff member with SVAS.
Sean officially joined the SVAS crew as the Logistics Coordinator for Higher Ground in 2010. Sean saw this position as an opportunity to not only do work that is a perfect fit for his skill set, but also allows him to work with individuals to make a meaningful difference.
Higher Ground quickly promoted Sean to Program Manager. In his short time on the team, Sean has helped achieve improved efficiency in the office. Under his co-leadership, the Higher Ground program has expanded its range of offerings, forging new relationships with local guides, volunteers, restaurants and entertainers. Sean looks forward to helping the Higher Ground program grow and expand to help more and more people over the upcoming years.
Sean has lived in Idaho for over 10 years and remains a passionate skier, mountain biker and outdoorsman. He lives in Ketchum with his wife Randi, his daughter Hannah and his mutt, Bayou. His favorite pastime is doing anything with them and he is anxiously waiting for the day when he can take his daughter biking for the first time.
